AAA Hockey helping kids with cancer

Some young kids and hockey fans that are part of the Kids Cancer Community are getting some practice time Thursday with the Northwest Calgary Athletic Association’s midget AAA Flames.

It’s part of a fundraiser for Kids Cancer Care and in honor of player Tyler Oakenfold’s best friend Joel Zukowski, who passed away from brain cancer in October, at the age of 16.

Tyler says he and Joel had many backyard hockey games growing up, and they sang O Canada before every game.

Each player on the midget AAA Flames has committed to raising $1500 which will send 20 kids affected by cancer to camp.

They have already raised $11,000 through shovelling sidewalks, collecting bottles, and canvassing door to door.

A celebratory game is being held on Saturday, January 16 between the AAA Flames and their arch rivals the midget AAA Royals.
