\Which party you intend to vote for is likely a good predictor of where you stand when it comes to refugees, according to a new survey, which finds Liberal and NDP supporters are the most likely to back allowing more refugees into Canada.
Of those who replied to this poll, 62 per cent of NDP and Liberal backers said they’d support Canada letting in more refugees.
That’s a contrast to just 39 per cent of people who intend to vote Conservative, according to pollster Shachi Kurl with Angus Reid.
“What we find is that people who are supporting or leaning towards the Conservatives in this election campaign are far less likely to be be amenable to accepting more refugees,” says Kurl.
But even among Conservative supporters, there is a splinter group that has a different idea.
“Practicing Christians — those folks are much more inclined to say, ‘Yes, we should be intervening on behalf of refugees, bringing them to Canada,’ doing more,” says Kurl. “As opposed to Conservative voters or supporters who are not religious.”
In all, 54 per cent of those who participated say they’d like our country to accept more refugees.
