Historic flag raising at Calgary City Hall

It’s a first for Alberta.

A transgender pride flag will be raised at Calgary City Hall on Saturday, as a show of solidarity with trans-identified Calgarians, as well as the Calgary Dyke & Trans march that occurs the same day.

The blue, pink and white flag will fly from sunrise to sunset.

Angela Reid, with the Trans Equality Society of Alberta, says this is a great show of support by the City of Calgary, because transgender issues are often obscured by mainstream LGB efforts.

Aria Ehren, a trans rights activist and member of TESA, says the flag will hopefully help create discussions about concerns still facing the community.

The Calgary Pride parade rolls through downtown on Sunday starting at 11:00a.m.
