Sit down for a big helping of creme brulée french toast, or grab a quick cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich.
A new breakfast-centric restaurant opens in Calgary’s core Monday(mar.30).
It’s called The Beltliner, and JackFM morning co-host and Calgary Sun columnist Eric Francis is one of the partners.
He’s pretty excited about their menu. “The idea is it’s comfort food made by a chef,” he said. “We’ve got a chef named Shawn Greenwood, who is spectacular. This is going to be high-end food but very value priced.”
While breakfast is the focus, it’s not everything. The Beltliner will also be open for lunch and dinner, and will try to be as local as possible, including offering a wide selection from Calgary-area breweries.
Francis admits he’s jumping into what can be a risky business at the best of times. “Of course the timing, with the economy the way it is, and the way it’s heading, that’s a scary thought, but that’s why we think having a value-based menu is key,” Francis said.
The Beltliner is located at 12 Avenue and 2 Street SW at the base of a new Marriot hotel, and along with sit-down service, they’ve got a coffee bar that opens at 7 a.m.
