Man shot by US border agent near Sumas crossing may have been wanted for Alberta murder

SUMAS, Wash. (NEWS1130) – The person shot and killed by US Border Patrol yesterday afternoon has been identified.

The Bellingham Herald is reporting the coroner has identified the man as 20-year-old Jamison Childress.

He recently lived in the Prince George area, where he was charged with mischief, assault and theft. He had court dates coming up.

Childress may have been a suspect in a murder on the Tsuu T’ina Nation, just outside of Calgary, according to friends and family of the victim.

Eighteen-year-old Brando Walker’s partially burned body was found about two weeks ago in the Elbow River.

RCMP believe the teen’s body was dumped there.

Alberta Mounties have said have nothing to share right now.

Childress was shot in the head by a border agent roughly 1,000 feet from the Sumas crossing. Blaine chief patrol agent Dan Harris Jr. says he failed to follow verbal requests and displayed “erratic and threatening behaviour” before spraying the agent with a chemical.
