Police investigating after Carstairs senior dies following violent home invasion

New details have started to surface about the man who died at the Peter Lougheed Centre early Monday morning, after he was rushed to the facility with gun shot wounds.

RCMP now believe the Carstairs man was the victim of a violent home invasion.

The timing is still unclear and a search of the rural property, northwest of the town, is now underway.

It’s believed three masked suspects entered the property, at Township Road 303 and Range Road 35, and there was a struggle with those who live inside.

Investigators believe the property was targeted.

“Unfortunately the 67 year old man died at hospital of his injuries. Major Crimes would like to hear from anyone who may have information in respect to this incident in Carstairs,” said Media Relations Officer Corporal Sharon Franks.

“We’re still trying to work through the details and figure out whether there was a relationship between the victim and the assailants,” she said. “I don’t believe it (the rural property) will make it more difficult, I think that we will be able to solve this case and we’re looking for people to come forward with more information.”

An autopsy has been scheduled for today at the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office.

The victim’s identity is being withheld at the request of his family members.
