There were fears suspect in attack that killed soldier would travel abroad for terrorism: RCMP

Mounties confirm the suspect in the hit and run attack on two military members that killed one of them in Quebec had been under investigation for possibly travelling abroad for terrorism.

A 25-year-old man led police on a chase before crashing his car and being shot by police. He later died in the hospital.

The RCMP confirms the passport of the suspect in this case had been seized by authorities.

Commissioner Bob Paulson says that’s because he was one of the 90 people believed to be radicalized and under investigation by his national security enforcement team.

Also today, Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney said the attack was clearly linked to terrorist ideology.

But neither would address questions on why the man wasn’t taken into custody before the attack.

The soldier who was killed as been identified as 53-year-old Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent.

Meanwhile, Quebec Provincial Police have given an update on their investigation; they believe the attack was deliberate, since one victim was wearing a uniform and the suspect is believed to have staked out the parking lot for at least two hours.
