Totem Pole Journey visits YYC

An Aboriginal group is taking a peaceful anti-oilsands rally to Calgary Thursday afternoon.

The Lummi community is hosting “Kwel Hoy: Totem Pole Journey,” where people of all nations will gather, drum, sing and honour the totem pole.

The carving represents the shared responsibility of the Nations in protecting their territories.

The group is standing up against projects like the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline, which they believe threaten the health of their communities.

The event happens at James Short Park at noon.
