National Day of Honour military parade to march through downtown Calgary

The 41 Canadian Brigade Group will march on parade at the Mewata Armoury downtown on Friday morning.

The 11:00a.m. military demonstration is part of the “National day of Honour” called by the Prime Minister and is being commemorated across Canada.

2 minutes of silence will also be held for the 40 000 personal deployed in the last dozen years.

It’s the largest deployment of personal since World War II.

Meanwhile, when the last Canadian flag flown at headquarters in Afghanistan is brought to Parliament Hill Friday, the president of the Royal Canadian Legion says it should be Governor-General David Johnston receiving the honour and not the prime minister.

President Gordon Moore is unhappy Stephen Harper will accept the flag and not Johnston who is the commander-in-chief of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The event is part of the “National Day of Honour” to salute the tens of thousands who served in Afghanistan.

Moore tells The Globe and Mail some veterans won’t acknowledge the day because they’re disappointed in Ottawa for a lack of benefits and health care for them and their families.
