Delivering cheer to abused women in Calgary for Mother's Day

Some cheer will be delivered and care packages handed out to more than 600 women in 30 shelters across Canada for Mother’s Day.

FedEx Express and the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness are involved in “Deliver Hope”, a program that provides workshop sessions and makeovers to women who are working towards a new start.

The Calgary YWCA’s Elsbeth Mehrer tells 660News, they are blessed to have organizations and individuals support the women they serve.

She says, “We see many, many women every year who are vulnerable because they’re experiencing poverty or they’re fleeing family violence and so, to have people in the community step forward and bring gifts to help those women feel special and to help support the services that we provide is really remarkable.”

Meher adds the YWCA helps provide the basic necessities, including providing shoes for kids, pajamas for women, food, clothing and other personal items.
