University of Calgary earns new honours on world’s stage

New honours for the University of Calgary.

The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 has ranked the post-secondary school as the top Canadian university on its world ranking.

Overall the U of C was listed 19th behind institutions in Korea, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Netherlands, United States, France, United Kingdom, Spain and Germany.

The weekly British magazine tracks higher education around the world and has been looking at universities under 50 years of age for the last 3 years.

It uses global scholarship and reputation to assemble its findings.

THE’s Managing Editor tells Forbes these institutions spend less time doing ‘blue-sky’ research and more time working with business on real-world solutions.

The number one school again this year was Pohang University of Science and Technology, in Pohang, South Korea.

Its student body is relatively small with 1,400 undergraduates.

Tuition there is only $5,900 and the total cost per year is $9,700.
