Collisions across Calgary keep paramedics busy

Calgary EMS personnel were kept hopping across the city New Year’s Eve.

Crews responded to 25 motor vehicle collisions involving an injury, between 6pm and 6am Wednesday morning.

Public Education Officer Stewart Brideaux says poor road conditions helped contribute to that number.

“Road conditions did deteriorate very quickly last night or the early evening depending on where you were, visibility could be quite poor, visibility of lanes and the amount of drifts popped up very quickly,” he says.

Brideaux tells 660News New Year’s Eve is traditionally one of their busiest nights of the year.

“Last night we did have extra ambulances on as well as extra P.R.U.S, those are Paramedic Response Units that have a single paramedic that can go ahead of calls,” he adds

He says even one extra person at the scene can be an added benefit.
