Officials talk about regional land management plan

A public conversation was held at the Glenmore Inn Wednesday evening for the Alberta government’s draft south Saskatchewan regional plan.

The Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y), says the government is right to conduct a regional land use management plan.

President of Y2Y Karsten Heuer tells 660News, he’s not so confident the government will follow through.

He says, “I’m getting the sense that they don’t feel like they have that room to make those courageous decisions right now, so that’s why it’s so important that people provide a clear message, yes, we want headwaters protected, yes, we want wildlife in the future and yes, we see that actually takes the protection of areas like the Castle down in southern Alberta to actually insure that that happens in the future.”

Heuer adds, land use is becoming more and more of a problem, as different activities come into conflict.
