Calgary rental crunch worsening

Calgary’s rental squeeze is getting worse.

Listings on Alberta property website Rentfaster.ca have gone up 30 per cent since September 2012, but the numbers are misleading.

Rentfaster President Darren Paddock tells the Calgary Herald, the problem is new postings tend to be too pricey for the average renter.

Paddock says it’s very difficult to find a one bedroom apartment for under $1,000/month.

The Canadian Mortgage and Housing corporation predicts Calgary’s average rent will be $1280/month by October 2014.
