Edmonton-area rock music festival shut down by county councillors

SHERWOOD PARK, – An Edmonton-area rock festival has been given the boot after complaints over noise and safety.

The four-day Boonstock festival, held in Sturgeon County in late June, was shut down Tuesday after a unanimous vote by county council.

Councillor Tom Flynn, who brought the motion, says the festival had a negative effect on traffic and nearby residents say they felt invaded.

He says it’s several months later and some of them still feel unsafe in their own homes.

Flynn says 107 residents approached him to have it shut down.

Flynn says the festival can apply to the county for permission to hold the event on another site.

This year’s lineup of acts included Krewella, DJBl3nd, Sebastian Bach and Torro Torro.
