Body found near Zoo property

Calgary Police continue to comb through the Bow River looking for clues after the discovery of a body Wednesday morning.

It was found by a contract worker at the zoo, near the pedestrian bridge on the north side of St. George’s Island around 6:30am.

Members of the Homicide and the Missing Persons Units have taken the lead as they try to determine what exactly happened.

First responders waded through knee-high water for several hours looking for physical evidence.

Duty Inspector Craig Coughlin could only tell 660News the man had been there for sometime and has yet to be identified.

The Medical Examiner attended the scene and removed him from the shoreline.

Coughlan says they’ll have to wait for the coroner’s ruling as to whether this might have been accidental, foul play or otherwise.

Police have issued a release saying there will be no further updates Wednesday.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
