TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,568.77 up 51.88 points):

TORC Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:TOG). Oil and gas. Down 21 cents, or 12.21 per cent, at $1.51 on 22.58 million shares. After the market closed Tuesday, the company announced that it made a $510-million acquisition of light oil assets in Saskatchewan.

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX:SGY). Oil and gas. Down 27 cents, or 4.62 per cent, at $5.57 on 7.12 million shares.

Connacher Oil and Gold Ltd. (TSX:CLL). Oil and gas. Up 5.5 cents, or 78.57 per cent, at 12.5 cents on 6.21 million shares.

RMP Energy Inc. (TSX:RMP). Oil and gas explorer. Up 26 cents, or 6.28 per cent, at $4.40 on 5.62 million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Up a penny, or 0.06 per cent, at $17.81 on 5.6 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (910.82 down 0.02 point):

Sonoro Energy Ltd. (TSXV:SNV). Oil explorer. Down half a cent, or 25 per cent, at 1.5 cents on 5.93 million shares.

Border Petroleum Corp. (TSXV:BOR). Oil and gas. Down half a cent, or 16.67 per cent, at 2.5 cents on 5.68 million shares.

Company reporting major news:

Cineplex Inc. (TSX:CGX). Theatre operator. Up 51 cents, or 1.35 per cent, at $38.22 on 64,583 shares after it made a conditional offer to buy digital signage maker EK3 Technologies Inc. Cineplex says it will pay about $40 million up front plus performance-related payments that could push the total to $78 million.

Lundin Mining Corp. (TSX:LUN). Miner. Up eight cents, or 1.95 per cent, at $4.18 on 1.62 million shares. The company is ramping up construction at the recently acquired Eagle nickel-copper project in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and it expects to increase the number of its workforce to 350 later this year from the current 100 construction personnel on site.

Orvana Minerals Corp. (TSX:ORV). Miner. Down 3.5 cents, or 7.45 per cent, at 43.5 cents on 73,784 shares after the gold and copper producer announced that it has suspended some operations at a plant located at a mine in Bolivia.
