The principal of a Calgary school that reprimanded a student for tackling a student with a knife has made a public statement.
Briar McLean, 13, was given a stern lecture and sent home, when he saw a student pull a knife during a fight and took action.
Principal Michael Bester writes in a letter on the school’s website, Briar was in no way disciplined, just asked to explain what happened.
He adds, “It’s recommended students don’t intervene in incidents such as this to ensure their own safety.”
The Calgary Sun reports, Briar’s mother maintains he was punished for “playing the hero.”
