Blaze forces 5 from Strathcona Park home

Some scary moments for five people after an early morning fire in Strathcona Park.

Crews were called to Strathbury Circle S.W. just before 2 a.m., after a neighbour spotted flames coming from the home.

Firefighters were called back to the scene after the blaze flared up again around 7 a.m.

There is extensive damage to the home; much of the rear and shingles on the roof are gone.

Battalion Chief Larry Fisher tells 660News no one was hurt in what turned out to be a large house fire.

“The incoming captain noticed how big and extensive the fire was, so he called an immediate second alarm,” he says.  “On arrival, the five occupants of the house met fire crews on the outside, and assured firefighters there was no one else left in the house.”

Crews used large water volume streams to protect the homes on the left and right.

No word yet on what caused the blaze, but the arson unit is being called into investigate.
