Justin Trudeau ‘gets through’ first week at helm of federal Liberals

Justin Trudeau has wrapped up his first work week as head of the federal Liberals, with his current largest issue being his critics.

Maclean’s Magazine writer Aaron Wherry said the Conservative attack ads were not a surprise, but he was not prepared for the onslaught.

“The speed with which Harper jumped on him, the speed with which they released those attack ads, the speed with which he was criticizing Quebec yesterday – people are chomping at the bit to take a run at him right now,” Wherry told 680News, Friday. “That will either work to Justin’s advantage or he’ll just be overwhelmed by it.”

Wherry added that for government to criticize Trudeau over the Boston bombings as it has shows they are unsettled about the Liberal leader’s popularity.

“For the Prime Minister to take a moment away from attending memorial services for Margaret Thatcher in London, just for the sake of taking a shot at Justin, it seems to speak to a certain nervousness, I would guess,” Wherry said, adding that something like that is not typically seen.

Meanwhile, the Maclean’s writer said that Trudeau’s performance this week was nothing spectacular, but it didn’t need to be. That’s because Wherry said he only needed to get through the week without making any mistakes, and he did that fairly well, by simply standing up and doing his job.
