Any huge mistakes? Top 5 recurring jokes on ‘Arrested Development’

TORONTO – Fan sites dedicated to “Arrested Development” have catalogued dozens of beloved recurring jokes, so coming up with a short list isn’t easy. But here are five of the most memorable jokes and gags that have popped up repeatedly throughout the series and may re-emerge for season 4, available on Netflix starting May 26:

— Chicken taunts

It’s a family tradition to taunt and mock a fellow Bluth by clucking and dancing like a chicken in their face. Nearly everyone in the family has been seen doing it, with their own personal style, although none do it very well. “Has anyone in this family even seen a chicken?” says Michael Bluth, played by Jason Bateman, in one episode.

— “Come on!”

It’s mostly Gob’s catchphrase but several characters have enthusiastically barked out the famous one-liner throughout the series in a pique of frustration.

— “I’ve made a huge mistake”

Another line that’s repeatedly uttered by Gob but is borrowed by other characters. The recurring gag is made funnier when Gob says to Michael in an episode, “I’ve never admitted to a mistake.”

— Never nude

Seasons 1 and 2 are littered with references to the affliction suffered by Tobias Funke, played by David Cross, who can’t bring himself to be naked.

— Next time/Previously on “Arrested Development”

Some of the funniest quick laughs come during the “Previously on” and “Next time on” segments which book-end episodes — and are typically filled with non sequiturs that completely stray from the show’s real storylines.
