Celine Dion to play Quebec City on July 27 in only show outside Las Vegas

QUEBEC – Pop megastar Celine Dion is aiming to conquer Quebec City’s Plains of Abraham with her only show outside Las Vegas this year.

Dion will appear on July 27 for a single concert.

She also played the Plains in 2008 as part of the city’s 400th-anniversary celebrations, a show her manager Rene Angelil described as “one of the greatest moments of her career.”

Unlike that gig, this one will cost fans.

Sylvain Parent-Bedard, president of promoter QuebeComm, told a news conference Tuesday that 60,000 tickets will be available, with prices ranging from $69 to $299 including services and fees.

Tickets for the general public will go on sale on April 6.

Dion will sing all her hits, with about 80 per cent of the show in French and 20 per cent in English.

Dion spends most of her time in Las Vegas where she performs at Caesars Palace.

Angelil, who is also Dion’s husband, says the timing was ideal for the Quebec show as were the partners.

“We know the site, we were impressed by the producers,” Angelil told the news conference via telephone from Las Vegas.

”It was an offer we couldn’t refuse.”

Dion’s Quebec show falls during a break in her Las Vegas schedule.

The song list has already been finalized and now the stage design and special effects are being worked out.

The promoters say they’ve learned from Madonna’s visit to the Plains last year and will provide additional large screens, food services and “sufficient” medical care.

The Plains is one of Quebec City’s main tourist draws and is a stone’s throw from the provincial legislature.

The federal park is the site of the historic 1759 battle between British and French troops that was influential in the eventual creation of Canada.
