Xavier Dolan’s ‘Laurence Anyways’ nominated for Cesar in France

PARIS – Quebec director Xavier Dolan’s “Laurence Anyways” has been nominated for a Cesar — France’s equivalent of an Oscar.

The movie is one of seven to make the cut in the best-foreign-film category.

It’ll be up against some stiff competition, including Ben Affleck’s “Argo” and Ken Loach’s “The Angels’ Share.”

“Laurence Anyways,” Dolan’s third film, tells the story of a transsexual man and his decade-long romance with a woman.

The Cesar winners will be announced in Paris on Feb. 22.

The nomination is just the latest recognition for Dolan’s third movie.

“Laurence Anyways” has also received 10 nominations in the inaugural Canadian Screen Awards, which are set for Toronto on March 3.

And last September, it was named best Canadian feature at the Toronto International Film Festival.
