Albertans overall satisfied by health care; according to HQCA survey

According to a new survey, Albertans are overall satisfied about the healthcare they receive throughout the province.

64 per cent of those polled by the Health Quality Council of Alberta say they are happy with the services they have experienced in the healthcare system.

But, the survey also found, for the amount of money put into the system over the 10 years this survey has existed, satisfaction has only improved around 2 per cent every other year.

“The province is certainly spending lots of money on it, on a per capita basis. Are we getting from that expenditure the improvement in the system that we really should be getting?” asks Dr. John Cowell, Chief Executive Officer of the HQCA.

He says most Albertans are concerned about their access to healthcare.

Another key issue is how well health care professionals coordinate their efforts with family doctors.

“In the 10 years that we have been asking Albertans about their experience in the healthcare system, they have been just slightly under 50 per cent satisfied that in fact their journey though the system has been good,” Cowell says.

The survey asked around 4,800 Albertans to answer 100 questions about their experiences.
