Seeking another comeback, NBC bets heavily on comedy in new fall lineup

NEW YORK, N.Y. – NBC is resting its latest comeback hopes on comedy, with old friend Matthew Perry landing a hand.

The network’s fall schedule unveiled Sunday includes 10 sitcoms, up from six. NBC will air comedies on two new nights, Tuesday and Friday. All the low-rated but critically-acclaimed comedies from Thursday night were renewed, although “Community” will move to Fridays in the fall.

In an annual ritual, all the broadcast networks present their fall schedules to advertisers this week. Fourth-place NBC is first up.

Perry, formerly of “Friends,” will star in a Tuesday night comedy as a fast-talking, sarcastic sportscaster who loses his wife in a car accident.
