Daryn Jones leaving co-hosting gig at ‘MTV Live’ in Canada

TORONTO – Canadian comedian Daryn Jones is leaving his co-hosting gig on “MTV Live” in Toronto.

The Victoria native, who’s interviewed a slew of celebrities on the program, broke the news on his Twitter account on Friday.

“All AMAZING things must come to an end: I have decided to leave MTV Live… Next week is my last,” he tweeted.

“Three shows left. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. That’s it,” he later wrote.

MTV Canada confirmed the news, saying Jones is leaving the Gemini Award-winning show for “new opportunities” and that new plans for “MTV Live” will be announced soon.

“Daryn’s been with us for six years, and it’s been a great adventure,” said a spokeswoman.

“He’s one-in-a-million and we wish him well. We know he is looking forward to new things, which I’m sure he’ll share when he’s ready.”

“MTV Live” is co-hosted by Nicole Holness and includes on-air contributors Paul (The Intern) Lemieux and “local loud mouth” Sheena Snively.

Jones, who started his career in standup comedy at age 17, won a Gemini for his writing on the sketch comedy TV series “Buzz,” which he co-hosted.

His other credits include writing and appearing on-air for the CBC-TV’s “Rick Mercer Report” and hosting his own morning radio program.
