Conrad Black among three authors vying for National Business Book Award

TORONTO – Conrad Black’s critical account of the U.S. justice system has been nominated for a National Busines Book Award.

“A Matter of Principle,” published by McClelland & Stewart Ltd., is one of three books nominated for the $20,000 prize.

It’s up against Bruce Philp’s “Consumer Republic: Using Brands to Get What You Want, Make Corporations Behave, and Maybe Even Save the World,” published by McClelland & Stewart Ltd.

Also nominated is Chris Turner’s book, “The Leap: How to Survive and Thrive in the Sustainable Economy,” published by Random House Canada.

The National Business Book Award recognizes the author of the best Canadian business-related book published in 2011.

The winner will be announced May 28 at a luncheon in Toronto.

Black is due for release next month from a U.S. prison after serving a reduced sentence for fraud.

The award panel includes CBC-TV news anchor Peter Mansbridge and Sen. Pamela Wallin.
