Trudeau impresses, beats Brazeau in charity boxing match

In a political match of the more physical nature, two young politicians stepped into the ring Saturday night to raise money for cancer research.

Liberal MP Justin Trudeau fought hard and managed to defeat Conservative Senator Patrick Brazeau when the referee called the match in the third round, declaring Trudeau winner by technical-knockout.

While Brazeau came out swinging, Trudeau had the crowd on their feet for most of the match as he hit Brazeau with a barrage of punches and held him in the corner of the ring.

“I proved that a liberal can take a punch, I proved that we’re not people who can be counted out, even though we seem nicer,” Trudeau said.

For Brazeau, it was more than his body that was hurting after the match.

“Definitely the ego, I’m a fighter and a competitive guy, obviously I like to trash talk, but again, I fell short,” Brazeau said.

Since he lost, Brazeau will have to get his hair cut in the foyer of the House of Commons Monday, and will have to wear a liberal hockey jersey for a week.

The charity boxing match was designed to raise money for cancer research.
