Canucks trade veteran wingers to Florida Panthers

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After a 3-2 OT win over the Wild, the Canucks traded Mikael Samuelsson and Marco Sturm to Florida for left winger David Booth, centre Steve Reinprecht and a third round draft pick in 2013.

Booth is the key player in the deal as the 26-year-old had a 31 goal season three years ago for the Panthers. He has also had a pair of 20 goal campaigns in Florida. He only played 28 games in the 2009-10 season after he suffered a concussion.

Reinprecht will report to the Canucks AHL farm team in Chicago.

Veteran defenceman Sami Salo blasted home the game-winning goal on the power play with 21 seconds left on the clock in overtime as the Canucks edged the Minnesota Wild at Rogers Arena.

After Dany Heatley slashed Ryan Kesler’s stick in half, Vancouver had the late man advantage in overtime. Salo ripped his third goal of the year in his 700th game in the NHL.

Jannik Hansen tied the game at two for Vancouver just past the two minute mark of the third period, as the struggling Dane notched his first goal of the campaign. Daniel Sedin scored the Canucks first goal and added an assist.

Cory Schneider made 21 saves for his second win of the season.

Vancouver went two for three on the power play.

The Canucks’ next game is Tuesday in Edmonton.
