Another season of Canucks hockey starting at Rogers Arena

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A new season of Canucks hockey is upon us as veterans report to Rogers Arena today. Vancouver will have more than 60 players at main camp.

The Young Guns tournament wrapped up in Penticton yesterday and 22 of the 30 kids that took part for the Canucks will suit up with the big boys including 2011 first round draft pick Nicklas Jensen, who showed some grit to go along with his skill in the Okanagan.

Vancouver Giants goalie Brendan Jensen was among eight players the Canucks released from the team that played in Penticton.

The Canucks start camp without two key forwards as Ryan Kesler and Mason Raymond are both nursing long-term injuries. Kesler had hip surgery this summer and Raymond left game six of the Stanley Cup Finals in Boston with a vertebrae compression fracture. Both players may not return to the lineup till November.

Former number one draft pick Cody Hodgson and free agent signing Marco Sturm are two players who will be given a chance to fill Kesler and Raymond’s shoes.

The Canucks first pre-season game is next Tuesday at home against Calgary.
