Province launches website for public input on riot review

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’ve got something to say about the Stanley Cup riot, now’s your chance. The province is giving you a way to send your thoughts to the reviewers.

A website has been launched, but you have less than a month to sound off. The deadline for submissions is August 12th and reviewers want you to stick to the elements in the review‘s focus:

– What was learned from the 1994 riot and how the findings were integrated into the planning for the Stanley Cup ‘Game Seven’ celebrations on June 15th

– The foundational elements of the Vancouver Police Department/City plans for the event and the relationship of those plans to what transpired in the lead-up to and during the riots

– The availability of liquor at public events and the contribution the availability made to the events that unfolded on June 15th

– A framework for how the City of Vancouver and the VPD work with the appropriate partners to optimize the safe, inclusive, and enjoyable participation of the public in celebrations in the public spaces for which Vancouver is world-renowned

The reviewers say it’s not another forum to identify rioters or submit evidence.

A report from John Furlong and Nova Scotia’s former deputy attorney general Doug Keefe is due at the end of next month.
