Despite riot, Vancouver still ranked nicest city in Canada

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Not even a senseless riot can tarnish our reputation. Two weeks after the mayhem, Canadians still consider Vancouver the nicest city in the country!

Vancouver is on top, followed by Quebec City according to a survey for the Association for Canadian Studies. It was conducted June 21st — one week after the Stanley Cup riot. So much for concerns over riot-related negative publicity.

This woman suspects there may even be admiration out there for how the city fought back. “We all want to see justice. They caused a lot of damage, they were idiots, and… anytime you add alcohol, personalities change. You do things you normally wouldn’t do.”

This man says even after the riot, the survey’s finding is no surprise. “I think it’s pretty common that people would say it’s a one-time thing and anybody that’s been to Vancouver knows that people here [are friendly].”

The good fight continues; an open forum at the Creekside Community Centre tonight hopes to feed on the good will, asking citizens how else we can build stronger connections.
