Maclean’s editor hosts debate with senior politicians, Wednesday

TORONTO, On. – Should there be more leadership debates during a federal election? National editor of Maclean’s magazine, Andrew Coyne, said there should be.

Having just one debate, in each official language, does not give Canadians enough information to help make an informed decision, Coyne said.

The Maclean’s editor will host a debate in Toronto, Wednesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. and the debate will be shown live on CPAC.

The party leaders won’t be there, but Coyne said they have some senior politicians on the panel to discuss the issues, including Jason Kenney for the Conservatives, David McGuinty for the Liberals,  Peggy Nash for the New Democrats and Rebecca Harrison from the Green Party.

The Bloc Quebecois received an invitation, but decided not to send anyone.

The debate will be held at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts in the Jane Mallett Theatre. Tickets are free and can be reserved at www.macleans.ca/inconversation.
