Police in shock after finding a puppy beaten to death

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – A puppy has been beaten to death in a Victoria hotel room.  Police responded to calls early this morning to find the motionless dog.

“Other guests reported they could hear, what they thought, was a dog crying out and being beaten.”

Sergeant Grant Hamilton with Victoria Police says that’s exactly what officers found in the suite when they arrived.

“A three-and-a-half month old Pit Bull [was found] motionless on the bed. Those officers then rushed the animal to a 24-hour veterinarian hospital but unfortunately, the dog did not survive.”

Hamilton says the puppy had been severely beaten and died of multiple broken bones and internal injuries.

“The officers that attended there, I’ve spoken with them, and they find it very disturbing how someone could do this to such a small defenseless animal.”

Police have arrested a 24 year old man. He remains behind bars, facing charges of animal cruelty. Hamilton says the man was out on bail, and was only looking after the dog for someone else at the Traveller’s Inn in downtown Victoria.
