Rypien given leave of absence

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks have granted forward Rick Rypien an indefinite leave of absence for personal matters.  Rypien did not attend team practice this morning at Rogers Arena.  In a release, the Canucks only stated that Rypien is a valued member of the organization and the club will continue to support Rick in every way possible.

Rypien missed 70 games during a similar leave during the 2008-09 season. That leave was never officially explained. The 26-year-old fourth-line forward has been a healthy roster scratch lately. At practice today, Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis and Coach Alain Vigneault were seen having a rink-side conversation with defenceman Kevin Bieksa, who is a close friend of Rypien.
