Store owners board up downtown after protest vandalism

TORONTO – More store windows are boarded up downtown after Saturday’s protest vandalism.

Windows were smashed in dozens of stores along Queen street, Yonge street and College Street as thousands of people marched through the city in protest of the G20.

A roving bands of hooded protesters broke off from the peaceful demonstrators and began smashing bank and store windows and set police cars on fire.

Along College Street, near police headquarters, officers told 680News they are ready for day two.

Sgt. Tim Burrows says that over 400 people have been arrested and police are asking people to send them any pictures they may have of the Black Bloc, the group that tore that destructive path through the downtown core.

Police are prepared for whatever unfolds today, but, they are hoping Sunday’s protests will be more peaceful and vocal and not as violent.
