New Yorker magazine runs all Canadian ads in its latest edition

TORONTO, Ont. – The latest edition of The New Yorker magazine, which hit the newsstands Monday is featuring all Canadian ads among its pages.

The issue is timed to coincide with this week’s G8 summit in Huntsville, Ontario and the G20 summit, which immediately follows in Toronto.

It’s believed to be the first time in the magazine’s 85 year storied history that all of the ads, which were sold separately, share a common theme.

Among those who bought ad space include tourism offices from coast-to-coast and the federal government, which the Globe and Mail said paid an estimated $856,000 (U.S.) for its six-page advertising spread.

But despite the timing to the G8 and G20 summits, the only mention of them among the ads comes in small print at the bottom of an ad touting Ontario’s commitment to clean energy.
