Police dog attacks an innocent teen

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A police dog that attacked a teen in a West Vancouver park has been pulled out of service and West Van police are now reviewing training practices.  The dog and its handler were doing a training exercise in a dark park around 11:00 p.m. last Tuesday, that’s when the dog attacked one of two teens sitting on a park bench.

Constable Jeff Palmer says where and when dogs are trained is part of the review.  “The Chief has ordered a new review of the training methods, just to ensure we are conducting them in a way that ensures public safety.”

West Vancouver Police have apologized to the teen who was treated for bruises and scratches.  Palmer says it’s the first time there have been issues with the dog, which has three years service.
