Troops in Afghanistan urged to don red and white face paint for gold-medal game

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – It’ll be double-doubles and doughnuts in the desert as Canadians serving in Afghanistan take in Canada’s gold-medal hockey game against the United States.

Canadian soldiers and civilians will gather at New Canada House at Kandahar Airfield to catch the game on the big screen.

The 12.5-hour time difference between Vancouver and Kandahar means soldiers will be up until the wee hours of Monday morning watching the game.

An invitation sent out earlier today urged all troops to don red and white face paint to cheer on Roberto Loungo and the rest of Team Canada.

And if the game itself wasn’t enticing enough, early-comers have been promised free Tim Hortons coffee and doughnuts.
