Possible speed reduction on Calgary side streets

Lower speed limits could be coming for residential areas in our city if a trial works in Edmonton.

The provincial capital is testing a reduction in speeds on side streets, from 50 km/h to 40 or even 30 km/h, and Calgary aldermen are watching closely.

Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart tells The Calgary Sun the most frequent complaints to her office are from residents concerned about speeders in residential areas.

The pilot project in Edmonton will be tested in six communities for a six month period.  It’s expected to cost about $600-thousand.
