City methadone clinic report released today

A city report on methadone clinics was released today, saying they need to be treated as regular medical clinics, and do not need, or deserve, a special designation.

Alderman Brian Pincott, who believes clinics need to be upfront about their operations, tells 660News we all need to battle the preconceptions about the clinics.

He says, “this report, found that something like 90% of the clients of methadone clinics are regular Calgarians, who unfortunately become addicted to prescription painkillers because of car accidents and things like that.”

The report was requested after residents of Braeside forced the Second Chance Recovery methadone clinic to move, after concerns the clients would rob and steal to support their habit.

Pincott notes there wasn’t a single complaint while the clinic operated in the S.W. community.
