Alberta Day at the Olympics

A different province or territory is being showcased every day during the Winter Olympics and on Wednesday Alberta had its chance.

The highlight came in the evening when Alberta musicians took to the stage at the Victory Ceremony at B.C. Place.

Calgary’s Paul Brandt, along with Allez Ouest and Cadence Weapon performed before North Vancouver’s Maelle Ricker received Canada’s second gold medal of these games for the women’s snowboard cross event.

Lindsay Blackett, Alberta Minister of Culture and Community Spirit, is leading our province’s delegation and tells 660News the mood is electric.

“People on the street see your Stetson and they just clap and they cheer. We heard many times how hospitable we are and what a great job we’re doing in Vancouver, supporting our B.C cousins, helping make Canada’s Games the best ever.”

Blackett says it was unfortunate that Premier Ed Stelmach wasn’t able to make it to Alberta Day events in Vancouver.

Stelmach tried a couple of times on Wednesday to fly out, but fog in Edmonton and snow in Calgary forced the premier to abandon his trip altogether.
