Greening up oil and gas operations could produce economic pain

The Canada West Foundation has released a new report urging caution as environmental policy for the oil and gas industry is developed and implemented.

The report entitled “Sharing the Load: Addressing the Regional Economic Effects of Canadian Climate Policy” warns of dire economic consequences if energy operators are unfairly targeted.

Director of Western Canada Projects for the foundation tells 660News capping energy exploration would not only impact Alberta’s economy but the national economy as well.

Robert Roach says Environmentalists and Politicians need to think things through before they start changing policy.

Roach says curbing oil and gas exploration would also impact manufacturing jobs in Ontario, employment opportunities across the country and federal transfer payments.

A recent report from the Canadian Energy Research Institute estimates that over the next 25 years, oil and gas activity will pump more than $3.5-trillion into Canada’s gross domestic product.
