Fire destroys large house in Saddle Ridge

A two-alarm fire has destroyed a home in Calgary’s far northeast.

The blaze broke out around 2:30 p.m. Thursday on an acreage in the 4800 block of 84th Avenue in Saddle Ridge.

The fire destroyed the large house, before moving on to an attached garage which was also burned to the ground.

The fire department’s Jeff Budai tells 660News crews were hampered by the fact that there were no fire hydrants in the area. They were forced to call in additional tankers from other rural areas to bring in water.

Fire officials say the home was totally destroyed by the fire due to the lack of a prompt water supply.

Early on, flames were shooting out of a back window and then engulfed the back of the house before moving on.

No one was at home at the time of the blaze.

Over 50 firefighers were dispatched to the incident.
