Toyota recalling additional vehicles in the U.S.

Toyota is recalling an additional 1.09 million vehicles in the U.S. over floor mat problems.

Wednesday night’s recall affects five models: 2008-2010 Highlander, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Venza, 2009-2010 Matrix, and 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe.

It follows a massive recall involving faulty gas pedals that has forced the car company to stop sales of eight of its most popular models and halt production at six of its plants.

There are 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. and about 270,000 in Canada involved in the gas pedal recall.

The Japanese automaker says the sales suspension includes: 2009-2010 RAV4,  2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Matrix, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2007-2010 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-2010 Tundra and the 2008-2010 Sequoia.

Toyota dealerships in Calgary expect they will be busy for a few weeks checking gas pedals.

The general manager of sales at Country Hills Toyota tells 660News that the phone lines are lighting up from concerned Toyota owners.

The initial gas pedal inspection will take about 15 minutes, but if it is the pedal in question, the job will take a couple of hours.
