NDP push for more long-term care centres

Alberta’s New Democrats are accusing the Stelmach government of indirectly downloading the cost of health care to seniors, in a damning report released Wednesday.

The NDP held seven public meetings last fall to find out what Albertans think about their health care.

‘Alberta’s Health Care: What People Want’ drew on various stakeholders including health care professionals and seniors advocates.

The NDP says that with not enough long-term care beds for seniors, they’re forced to pay for assisted living beds themselves.

MLA Rachel Notley tells 660News seniors are now paying for services the government used to provide, and if they can’t afford it, their family is.

Notley and Brian Mason will hold public meetings across Alberta on the issue. They’ll be in Calgary Sunday afternoon.
