Kensington bar under investigation

Alberta’s Gaming and Liquor Commission is following up an anonymous tip that a Calgary restaurant over-served it’s patrons on New Year’s Eve.

The probe comes just days after a dispute over a $17-thousand dollar bill given to the Edmonton Oilers, who were ringing in the new year at Osteria de Medici.

Originally, the general manager of the Italian eatery said the Oilers refused to pay their tab, but a settlement has since been reached.

A spokesman for the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission says an anonymous tipster has accused staff at the high-end restaurant of continuing to serve the hockey players, even after they were obviously drunk.

New provincial regulations took effect on New Year’s Day requiring staff at licensed restaurants to be trained to look for signs of intoxication.

If found guilty of violating the province’s liquor laws the restaurant could be slapped with a hefty fine or have it’s licence suspended or taken away.
