Cause of New Year’s death may not be known for months

Calgary Police have identified the woman found dead January 1 as 33-year-old Renee Wood.

Her body was found in a hotel in the 4600 block of 16 Avenue N.W.

The autopsy was completed Monday, but police say further tests are needed in order to determine how the woman died and that could take several months.

Wood’s death is still being treated as suspicious and the Homicide Unit continues to lead the investigation.

Investigators also need help finding a man who was seen with the 33-year-old before her body was found.  He is not considered a suspect but police think he may have information crucial to the investigation.

Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 403-266-1234, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit an anonymous tip online at
