2 people in hospital after fiery crash on Stoney Trail

CALGARY(660 NEWS) – The northbound lanes on Stoney Trail have reopened after a fiery crash involving a tractor trailer shut the road down for several hours on Saturday.

“A nearby police unit was able to radio that [crash] in and request the assistance from the fire department, and then get two occupants of the tractor out,” Sgt. Trent Peterson with Calgary police said. “Both of those were transported to the hospital,” and both are in serious but stable condition.

According to Peterson, the tractor-trailer veered off the road into a median around 10:45 a.m. causing the trailer to break apart.

The load it was carrying scattered across the road and into all lanes of traffic.

A passerby captured the tractor-trailer engulfed in flames.

The video shows huge plumes of grey smoke coming from the transport truck and debris strewn across the road.

Emergency crews are seen treating a man by the side of the road, metres away from the crash.
